About
the Bay Ridge Center
The Bay Ridge Center is a nonprofit, non-sectarian multi-service
agency sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran Church and established
by the Rev. Darrell Helmers in 1976 as the Bay Ridge Nutrition
and Home Care Program.
In 2004 the Center celebrated 28 years of service to the people of southwest
Brooklyn. Today we serve over 6,000 older adults a year, and another 3,000 individuals
and families under the age of 60. But our mission remains the same: to assist
the needy, improve the quality of life for older adults, and enable those at
risk to remain in their homes and neighborhood. |

Our staff is the secret of our success. The people who work
at the Bay Ridge Center truly care for those we serve. Dr. Russell
Norris, Executive Director, and Susan Lavin, Director of the Senior

work anywhere else!
Meals on Wheels: “We Deliver!”
The Bay Ridge Center delivers over 180 meals a day,
seven days a week, to homebound seniors across southwest Brooklyn.
The meals are important nutritionally, but no less important
is the sight of a friendly face once a day for those who live
alone. Meals on Wheels drivers, like Kim, may be the only visitor
